I began training at Specialized Helicopters located in Watsonville, California after obtaining my private license from another school. The chief pilot/owner, Chris Gularte, accessed my career motivations and got to work right away finding me a job. After training for barely a week, I was contacted by an aerial application operator willing to take me in and train me for the particular field. The owner picked up my commercial training tab while I worked from the ground up, obtaining the necessary foundation for this very demanding field of aviation. Chris also tailored to my training needs for this field which has prepared me for this high risk, demanding flying. It was the hard work and reputation that Chris put forward that jumpstarted my career as a helicopter aerial applicator. It is no wonder why Chris has had a 100 % hiring percentage for his students. He works to get their "foot in the door".

Im a Swedish guy, 24 years old, that decided a year back to become a helicopter pilot. I started school spring 2009 in South Sweden, and I soon came up to the decision to deal with where to do my time building.
I searched the web talked with friends and found the school Specialized Helicopter that was mentioned by my friends, in Watsonville CA.
Today Im happy that I found this school. They have nice area to fly in, the people working on the school is always helping you out and in the end I will get a nice time here while I save money. I did 50 hours in their R22, I paid my go around ticket, the food, and the housing and I end up with money saving compared to do it in Sweden.
You got the chance to see a new country, discover a new language, new ways to do things, And the crew at Specialized is there and help you out all the way.
I gave them a call before I got here, they took care of housing, transportation and did some of my paperwork over here which made it much more easy for me to get my hours up in the air and get going with my studies. I will recommend this school to my friends back at school!

Specialized Helicopters has been a wonderful flight school. They have both R22s and R44s that are all extremely well maintained. The instructors are great and you dont feel that any of them are there just to build time. They are there to teach you. You can go as fast as you are able or take as much time as you need. Scheduling is almost never a problem with a great ratio of students to instructors and helicopters. Overall it is a friendly place with a wonderful group of people and a great learning environment. I am extremely glad I chose to train with Specialized Helicopters.

I have found specialized to be a safe and professional place of learning. The staff are both warm and structured who will let you work at your own pace but at the same time not let you fall behind. The school is set close enough to the den of sin that is Santa Cruz that ones weekends will always be full of things that will never be forgotten no matter how hard one trys.

I never flew any aircrafts before coming here, but I did a lot of researches before enrolling myself in a flight school and Im very happy to drive 166 miles each time, because CFIs are great & patient as well as experienced (most with thousand of hours).
